Frequently asked questions . . .
How can I know what size to choose?

Most single head - shoulder portraits are 16"x20".  Please note that  that is the size of the GLASS inside the frame: any thing on paper needs a mat.  In addition to enhancing the appearance of the product, a mat supplies an important air space between the work and the glass (or plexi-glass) A mat takes up 2" - 3" all around of the framed space.

Often, the subject dictates the size of the project: a standing figure, or a guy on a bike, for example, needs a vertical --- probably an 18"x24" format.  For groups of subjects, I encourage a size of at least 20"x24",allowing a good 4" height for each head, and ample 'breathing space' around shoulders, figures, etc.

Can you frame it for me?

Adding glass (or plexi-glass) and a frame to sending a portrait adds $$$ to your cost: I would encourage you to select a standard-size product, where frames are easy to find. I am not a framer, but if you happen to live near me (Disneyland area), I can show you the simple frames that I have.

What about matting?

I do cut mats, usually double or triple, and offer them at very reasonable prices.  I prefer to send a portrait in a mat for extra protection.

How long does it take to get a portrait?

My normal turn-around-time is three weeks: around the Holidays, or family vacations, that may be longer.  If you're thinking "Christmas," think October 15

Can you put people or pets together from separate photos?

Of course. Most of the portraits in this site were done from separate photos.

What if I don't like my hair in this photo?

Send another photo.  I would encourage customers to send several photos: if one is exactly the way you want it --- fine: usually, the dress or the color or the hair is best in one picture, but the face/expression is better in another (as long as everything is looking in the same direction.)  Notes on color are also important: often, blue eyes look brown in a photo, or hair isn't really THAT red).

What if I don't like the portrait?

Then you can't have it!!! (You don't pay for it) Your satisfaction is Guaranteed!  I work very slowly, but very accurately, and in OVER 1,000 PORTRAITS haven't yet had one returned!  (It wouldn't do me any good to have an unhappy customer out there.)

Can I e-mail the photos to you?

I think so: (JPEG and TIFF come through ok.  I prefer hard-copy photos (I'm old school), but I'm coming around to the computer age: let's try it.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes: I take a 1/3 deposit.  The balance is due when the project is completed.

What about shipping?

Unless requested otherwise, I sandwich the portrait between several layers of foam board, and send it by UPS.  A UPS store near my house quotes me a price based on weight and zip code: I then send that information to you.

Can't I just pick it up?

Oh YES INDEED!!! That's the very best!!! If you are within driving distance from Disneyland (I live one mile south of the park), picking up the portrait/painting, as well as approving it, saves you $$$ and me packaging and mailing time.

How do I pay?

Pay Pall works great: A check is also ok, and that green stuff in your wallet is still popular.
